What is ART(ish) THEORY?
ART(ish) THEORY came out of a very simple question made by a number of my friends: "What is art?"
Answering that question is not only difficult, but the most important question to answer for my line of work as a graphic designer and painter. And people tend to ask me "What is art?" all the time. Sometimes it's in the form of other questions, like "Is graphic design art?" or "Why do people like Jackson Pollock?" or "Don't you think my child's scribbles are beautiful and show promising talent?" Ultimately, the question is unanswerable, because, like the old saying goes, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
My first pass at this website was too large and grand. I wanted to answer the question with education, but also, I wanted to do a podcast and tutor and provide materials and still be an artist and graphic designer for hire. As my grandmother would say, I bought a shiny, new collar without knowing the size of the dog.
For now, though, I'm going to focus on what I do best and answer the question the best way I know how by letting my creativity speak for itself. So what is my answer to the question, "What is art?" Well, just have a look around! I'm sure it's here... somewhere...
